The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill

British street artist Banksy made some art in New York. If you’re there (I’m talking to you “girl next door”) you should definitey check it out if you get the chance. If you’re not in the NYC, then just click here and check out the videos.

The rest of his story is copy pasted from Wooster Collective becuase they’ve seen it, and I haven’t. They also have more pictures on their site, so check it out:

While New Yorkers have been consumed by the stock market meltdown, a tiny little pet store quietly opened four days ago at 89 7th Avenue between West 4th and Bleeker Street in the West Village of New York City. There are no puppies or kittens in the windows here. Instead, a live leopard lounges on a tree in the window.

Or is it?

In other windows, things get a bit more bizarre. McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets sip barbecue sauce. A rabbit puts on her makeup. A CCTV camera nurtures its young.

Clearly, that this isn’t your typical pet store. So who’s the “owner” of the Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill at 89 West 7th Avenue?

Banksy.

Once inside Banksy’s pet store, you discover such things as breaded fish that swim in a large round bowl while hot dogs are living the high life under heat lamps in cages near the cash register.

Dupli Casa

Pretty decent looking house.

Dupli Casa, a private residence by the Neckar river, near the old town of Marbach in South- Western Germany, is the work of Jürgen Mayer H., founder and principal of his cross-disciplinary studio. J. Mayer H. Architekten in Berlin.

From the outside, the three-storey concrete villa looks like a bit like some sort of a fiberglass motorboat job gone funny, yet it also manages to look immensely appealing and intriguing. From some angles, the structure appears to be standing upside down — the lower exterior rim spilling onto the lawn and forming a part of a roof structure, if the building were to stand the other way around. It could have been blown there by the wind; it could be a StarWarsian vehicle frozen in place; it could be just taking off to outer space.

BillaBloch

Billabong will host an exhibition of Wolfgang Bloch’s work at Laguna Art Museum on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12, in conjunction with Chronicle’s release of a book on his life and art.

The book follows the life-path of Wolfgang’s unique childhood in Ecuador, his move to America, his art education, the winding journey through California culture, the surf industry and, eventually, his return back into the world of art.

Written by Mike Stice and designed by renowned graphic designer David Carson, Wolfgang Bloch: the Colors of Coincidence is filled with over 50 full-color plates of Bloch’s atmospheric paintings along with photographs and visuals that enrich the story of this artist’s insights and inspirations from childhood environment to 21st Century explorations.

The exhibition will be open to the public October 11-12 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Signed copies of the book will be available in the Museum store. Both Wolfgang Bloch and Mike Stice will be available on Sunday, October 12, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. for personalized book signings.

Limited Edition Confederate Fighter

Wow. Limited to just 45 bikes, the Confederate Limited-Edition Fighter features a carbon fiber, titanium, and aluminum chassis, with a 64” wheelbase, integrated braking system, 1966c.c. engine, and a top speed of 190mph.

I go 190 all the time around here, so I might just pick one up and weld a surf rack on it. That’d be hot.

Seems like a bargain in these tough times.

Dio Would Be Proud

L’atelier WM is a a group of young artists founded in Paris in 2008. They made these candles cast from real hands. Burn time is approximately 3 hours.

They claim their candles shown above are for sale at colette, at the Black Block of the Palais de Tokyo , at the Printemps Design of the Centre Pompidou and at the Sam Concept store in France but they do not yet seem to be available.

Riding the Wave - Trailer

The trailer for Riding The Wave, a surf culture documentary about the current state of the “industry” directed/created by Art Center grad Christopher Cutri:

“Surfing, with its historic and contemporary roots in Hawaii, has become a world wide marketing magnet. How has surfing, an activity traditionally associated with a counter culture ethos, exploded into a multinational billions dollar industry with cultural influence almost beyond measure? Surf clothing and other paraphernalia have blanketed the cultural landscape in this country and around the world. With commentaries from Steve Pezman of the Surfers Journal, Bob Mcknight, CEO of Quiksilver, Paul Naude, President of Billabong, Dave Parmenter, Mickey Munoz and many others, we discover the tensions surrounding this movement and its affect on the sport.”
