Irons Brothers Set to Ditch Mundaka
According to the Fantasy Surfer message boards, a lot of people are going to pull-out of the Mundaka contest. Most notably so far are Bruce and Andy, but there’s also mention of Dingo and Neco too.

Andy Irons is Missing
LAST SEEN: Getting his ass-kicked by Jordy & Jihad in Round 1 of the Quiksilver Pro France, with a combined heat total of 2.34 points.
INFO: 3x World Champ Andy Irons didn’t show up for his hugely anticipated Round 2 rematch with Jihad Khodr. He is no where to be seen. Jihad surfed for 30 minutes by himself, and still barely made it through the heat.
IF FOUND: Please return to the A.I. of 2003

Shaun White Target Commercial
I know this Shaun White commercial for Target has been out for like 3 weeks, and I keep forgetting to post it, but I like it, and some of you may not have seen it.
I was slumming at Target the other day, and I checked out some of the line. I really liked a lot of the t-shirt designs, so I tried a few on, and they fit like shit. So did the jeans. I’m normally a size 33, but the 36’s were tight on me. Overall, I think the whole line is cut for boys half my age.
Anyway, the commercial is good.

Timmy Turner
There’s an incredible article about Timmy Turner in the September issue of Men’s Journal. I thought I knew about his fight with Staph infection (which he contracted in Huntington Beach, not some far off country), but I really had no idea. They pretty much had to remove half of his skull!
I don’t want to spoil the article, because it’s really worth reading, so pick up the mag, but it’s pretty incredible that Timmy has made almost a complete recovery, and is back out on the road making another surf film. Can’t wait to see it.

Joel Tudor Kookbox
Looks like Joel Tudor is starting something new called kookbox. So far it’s just a blogspot blog with 3 entries, but Joel is promising big things to come.
“KOOKBOX is a collective of art, fashion, watercraft design and world influence, from possibly the greatest corners of this nation (there’s still some good left). It digs from Hawaii (boardshorts and bikinis on bicycles), New York (hipsters and models everywhere), San Diego (Simmons, the Mirandons, Eckstrom, Van Artsdalen, Hynson, Frye, List, Kenvin, Machado). Combining the influence of these people and cultures, an infant is born.”
Jah Bless, Joel
we’ll keep an eye out, and let you know if it materializes into anything but a blog, but for now, check out some Joel Jitsu.

Slater Surfs Pretty Good.
Well it seems like Mr. Slater is on a bit of a roll this year. 3 wins in the first 4 contest. Pretty amazing. He hasn’t lost to anyone on the tour this year. He’s lost to 2 wildcards (Manoa & Bruno) but none of the actually other pros on tour. That’s gotta be a little frustrating/overwhelming if you’re one of the other dudes on tour.
Next up is J-Bay, and Slater has a pretty good record there too. Is there any way he can be stopped?

Dane Reynolds is Over It.
Wow, after watching this episode of High Shredability, it really doesn’t look like we’re going to see Dane on tour for very long either. Sounds like he’s totally over it. That’s kind of a bummer. I always look forward to his heats on the webcasts. When the webcasts are actually working.

Bye Bye Brucie
Apparently while we were away, Brucie Irons officially said he can’t cut it anymore is done with the tour and he’s going back to being a free surfer. Check out the interview and story by Evan Slater on the Surfing Mag site.
The Gerbil is still and insane surfer, and he’s been making it obvious for a while now that he just doesn’t give a shit about the competitive aspect anymore, so this really isn’t too much of a shock.

Pro Surfers Are Getting Hurt and Sick
Don’t know what’s going on lately, but there’s been a bunch of scary injury/sicknesses in the surfing world this last week.
DAMO HOBGOOD – Went over the falls at Teahupoo and broke things. Here’s what he said about it on his WPS blog:
“Don’t really know exactly what I was thinking except probably should have done anything but what I did; hesitated on this wave, thought I could get out of it, got sucked over the falls, went straight into reef, knew I hit hard and knew that something had happened.
Hit my head pretty hard so was just trying to stay with it until I got out of the impact zone. Went to hospital to make sure everything was okay, and it was, besides some broken bones.
I took the next flight out and went and saw Dr. Kramer who said I fractured three parts of my scapula but I wouldn’t need surgery which I was really happy with.“
GABE KLING – Got pneumonia in W.A. and had to spend about 6 nights in the hospital. He had severe allergic reactions to the medicine they gave him and broke out in rash and swelled up. Had a 103 degree fever. I guess the Dr. said if it comes back it could kill him. They recommend that he rests for a month or so to get back 100% strength.
He is skipping the 6* in Durban and possibly 6* in Scotland.
TRAVIS POTTER – HB surfer and longtime Indonesian visitor Travis Potter contracted a potentially deadly strain of cerebral malaria while traveling through the Southeast Asian island chain last week.
