Terra Wind Amphibious RV
Wow, so I dare anyone to guess who will be the first to step up and use this thing in a surf video.
Drive-Thru? Young Guns 4? The Search? Let’s see it!
Starting at only $850k, The Terra Wind’s features include GPS, tons of leather, DVD/VHS/CD players, all major appliances (fridge, washer/dryer, etc.), an 8-jet whirlpool tub, marble floors and shower, a 42-inch Plasma TV, and a 6-foot swim deck.
It looks like it also comes with an ex-porn star from the 70’s for a driver.

Air New Zealand is Amazing
I was just talking to a friend that made the mistake of booking a flight to Costa Rica on Delta. After he booked and was checking-in, they told him that it’s now $150 per board each way and they count boards in bags. That’s $600 to take 2 boards on your trip, when the ticket itself only costs $400. Listening to his woes reminded me that I was going to write a letter to Air New Zealand, thanking them for their amazing service.
I just flew from Los Angeles to Auckland to Brisbane to Auckland and back to Los Angeles with 3 boards in a triple board bag, and they didn’t charge me a penny. Any traveling surfer knows that this is a rare occurrence in modern times, with most airlines trying to charge at least $75 per board. This alone is a great reason to fly with Air New Zealand.
But that’s not the only reason the service was so great. The in-flight entertainment system on this airline is incredible! You can choose from about 100 movies to watch (new releases and a library of “classic” films), a great line-up of TV shows, video games, and a HUGE library of music with the ability to build a custom playlist for the flight. Overall, I think I watched about 15 movies, and checked out a bunch of CD’s, all on my FREE headphones.
Plus, I’m a vegetarian, and on a 12 hour flight, food is important to me. I forgot to request vegetarian meals when I booked my flights, but the crew on every flight was able to either find an “extra” vegetarian meal for me, or they would go to First Class and pull together enough side dishes to make me a good meal. It was just a different level of service than I’ve ever received on any American airline.
If you ever need to fly anywhere AirNZed flies, I can’t recommend them enough. At a time when the U.S. airlines are starting to charge $15 for your first checked bag and $7 for an in-flight snack (while at the same time the cramped seats and level of service just keeps getting worse), this airline is a truly a breath of fresh air.
Now if they would just start their LAX – San Jose service, we’d be set.

New Zealand
Sorry for the spotty updates, we’re currently traveling/surfing New Zealand, and internet service isn’t as widespread here as we thought it would be.
Regardless, as you can tell from the photo of Raglan above (taken yesterday), we’re scoring, so you’re just going to have to wait for The Daily Drop to become “daily” again.
I’ve always wanted to check out New Zealand, and so far, it’s everything I was hoping it would be. Incredibly beautiful, uncrowded, super-friendly people, and amazing surf. I always heard that “there are more sheep in New Zealand than people”, so I thought I was prepared for it, but I can’t believe how many sheep there are here. They’re everywhere. Fluffy white dots lining every green hill on the island.
Please keep checking back for more updates.

New Airline Seat Design
Duh. Why hasn’t anyone though of this until now? We all hate airline seating (unless you’re in First Class, which I’ve never been), especially on long flights. Staggering the seats like this makes so much more sense to me. Yes, I see the obvious flaw, if you’re traveling with your significant other or your screaming child, this is definitely less intimate, but who gives a shit, comfort is more important.
Thompson Solutions designed these seats, and with most airline seat innovations being made for higher-paying Business- and First-Class customers, it’s a nice surprise that Delta will supposedly begin installing the seats in their Economy sections by 2010.
